Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to frequently asked questions regarding SameGrain's app.

I’m confused, what is all this planting, grains, and mulching about.
SameGrain uses a nature theme to describe how our app works. To start we have you answer questions to develop your profile. We call these answers GRAINS because just like the grain in a tree or the grain in your fingerprint, these answers are what make you unique. When you find a strong match, you send a PLANT request. Once the PLANT request is accepted, you can fully communicate with that user, discuss the areas you share in common and grow your relationship. To clear out bad matches or remove anyone that gets creepy, we have a MULCH feature. MULCHING is simply a term we use that gives you the power to remove weak matches or disconnect plants that may get creepy. You can always go to your MULCH PILE and RECYCLE users if you change your mind or their match strength grows.

I have no Plants?
Remember, you must first answer questions to establish your profile. The more questions you answer the more likely you will match with another SameGrain user on one or several answers (or, as we like to say, grains). As SameGrain grows, and other users answer more questions, you will begin to discover more and more matches. So, be patient and check back often for new matches. Once you have matches, you can then send those matches plant requests.

Why don’t I have any matches?
Remember, you must first answer questions to establish your profile. The more questions you answer the more likely you will match with another SameGrain user on one or several answers (or, as we like to say, grains). As SameGrain grows, and other users answer more questions, you will begin to discover more and more matches. So, be patient and check back often for new matches.

If you click on the user’s profile picture you can go to their complete profile and see a more detailed breakdown of your common grains.

How do I know if someone is a strong versus a weak match?
Below each user name is a match strength bar. The stronger the match the longer the blue-green bar will appear. The match strength will change every time you or your match answer more questions. It might grow stronger or weaker with time.

How do I see what I have in common with my matches?
You simply click on the match strength bar to see which categories you match on the most and then click on the category icon to see exactly what you share in common. Just swipe right or left to view all the categories.  If you click on the user’s photo you can see their complete profile and a more detailed breakdown of your common grains. To protect your privacy, SameGrain will only display areas you share in common.

How do I plant a good match?
When you match with someone that shares key areas in common swipe the (symbol) to the left of their profile image and four icon options should appear: View, Plant, Message, and Mulch. Simply select the Plant option and an automatic Plant Request will be sent to them. The user you invited to plant must accept your invitation before they will appear in your plants. It’s a good idea to make sure your notifications (in settings) are turned on.

Do users know when they are mulched?
No, users do not know when they are mulched. Most users are mulched simply because they were not a strong enough match. Sometimes this is caused because you or the other user did not answer enough questions. This is why we created the mulch pile. You can recycle users from your mulch pile if they become a stronger match later.

How does recycling from the mulch pile work?
Very simply. If the user you mulched was never planted they will simply reappear back in the mix of your matches. From here you can send them a plant invite or just let them sit and see if they grow into a stronger match. If the user you mulched was previously planted then they will return to your plants. Users are never notified that they have been mulched or recycled.
